Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Grand opening of The Cut Live

New music venue alert! Gloucester is the place to be this Saturday (January 13), as the grand opening of The Cut Live packs a legendary lineup to kickstart the Cape Ann joint and celebrate the birthday of the godfather of Boston punk, Willie Alexander.

The 500-capacity, 300-seat venue in downtown Gloucester — complete with bar and restaurant, plus rehearsal and recording studios (!!!) — raises a glass to our music scene past and present with performances by Alexander’s Boom Boom Band, Richie Parsons, David Robinson of The Modern Lovers, “Mission of Burnham” with Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four, Rick Berlin, The Real Kids’ John Felice, Jen D’Angora of The Shang Hi Los, Andrea Gillis, Classic Ruins, The Neighborhoods, Kenne Highland, and plenty more. Check the flyer below for the full rundown.

“Willie and The Lost opened the Boston Tea Party — one of the most celebrated venues not just in Boston, but across the country, 57 years ago this month,” says The Cut Live’s concert and event manager Tom Clark. “It’s an honor to have Willie and so many of his remarkable colleagues christening The Cut on his birthday. We’re confident that the good vibes from that night in 1967 will infuse this room and we’re looking forward to many, many great nights to come.”

It’s off to a great start. Upcoming shows at The Cut include Vapors of Morphine (January 27); Shemekia Copeland (March 16); and GA-20 (April 13). Hit the link for the full schedule.

Comedy: Clare O’Kane & Eugene Mirman at The Rockwell

We hardly need a reason to head underground to one of our favorite Somerville venues, but The Rockwell keeps giving us an excuse to hang in Davis Square. On Saturday, the intimate theater and performance space welcomes Clare O’Kane (writer for SpongeBob Squarepants, Shrill, SNL) and Eugene Mirman (Gene from Bob’s Burgers) for a one-night-only night of whipsmart laughs. As usual, Mic’d Up has the word: “If your comedy tastes mainly reside somewhere in the absurdist/storytelling realm, this is a one-two punch you will not want to miss. Between the two of them, Mirman and O’Kane team up to bring a full-throttle offering of some of the most detailed and intellectually sound comedy you’ll ever find in one more room.”

CLARE O’KANE + EUGENE MIRMAN :: Saturday, January 13 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St. in Somerville, MA :: 7 p.m., 21-plus, $20 to $25 :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: ‘Mean Girls’ Movie Party at Alamo Drafthouse

Get in loser, we’re going singing in the Seaport. The new Mean Girls, Tina Fey’s musical adaptation of her unfuckwithable 2004 teen comedy, hits the silver screen this weekend, and Alamo Drafthouse has the mother of all parties to celebrate. The theater’s interactive Movie Party series was made for films like this (singing! shouting! props!), and it should be a raucous time had by all. Plus, we get to see The New Regina George (caps intended), Reneé Rapp, in action before the “I Hate Boston” singer plays Boston Calling in the spring.

Here’s the word from Alamo Drafthouse: “You guys, this Mean Girls Movie Party is going to be so fetch. Not only will you get to see Tina Fey’s hilarious, musical adaptation of the iconic original, you’ll also enjoy interactive fun and themed props like mini Burn Books, inflatable microphones, and more. Who knows, this might even be your chance to make a move on the super cute guy from math class. You don’t have to be a Plastic to get into this party, but we do expect tickets to go fast so book your seats ASAP. Just be sure you schedule it around your friend’s art show – you don’t want to be a mean girl and miss it.”

‘MEAN GIRLS’ MOVIE PARTY :: Friday, January 12 at Alamo Drafthouse Seaport, 60 Seaport Blvd. in Boston, MA :: 7:15 p.m., $19-plus :: Event info and tickets
