There’s shit weather in store for most of New England this weekend, which allows for more time spent indoors and alone with the headphones on. Sure to be pumping through more discerning earholes is “Tulips”, the hypnotic and gently propulsive new single from British alt-pop artist Kai Bosch, which hit the streams on Thursday (January 11).
As was the case with casually dramatic October single “Bodybag,” Bosch’s heartfelt and heart-ached lyricisms are once again at the forefront, as his tales of love and loss are magnified by a collaboration with BRIT Award-winning producer Charlie Andrew (Alt-J, London Grammar).
“‘Tulips’ is about the realization that you have nothing left to give to a relationship, it’s a bittersweet feeling of optimism and hope for the future while also feeling a pang of regret that things aren’t the way they once were,” says Bosch. “I wrote it towards the end of a stint living with my ex-boyfriend and realizing that giving my love to him wasn’t worth my time anymore as I wasn’t getting anything in return.”
He adds: “The song was inspired by the idea of flower pressings and how you can preserve the color and beauty of something that is still dead nonetheless — and how I wish I could do that to the relationship I had with my ex.”
Headphones on for full effect.
