It’s an uncommon predicament to have announcers reflecting on how good it is that the New England Patriots lost an awful snow bowl game against the Jets because it would improve their chances at getting a better draft pick, but that’s where we are: We’re in the “Ozymandias” stage of the Bill Belichick era, after all. But we’ll always have those six rings to wave in front of our faces like the region’s own John Cena (albeit much more awkwardly), and NFL Films will always have the best-ever collection of live-sports footage for documentarians to pull from.
Is it any wonder that Apple TV+ would do a Last Dance-style miniseries about the Pats? Sure, Tom Brady had Man in the Arena, but, much like Jeter’s The Captain, it was kind of lost in the streaming shuffle. But The Dynasty: New England Patriots, based off of the NYT bestseller of the same name, is hitting screens in just a few weeks with all the Belichick, Kraft, Gronk, Brady and… Bill Burr and Bon Jovi that you could shake a stick at. Not content with just a meager crazy-ass VR headset announcement to fill pages this week, Apple decided to bring joy to every New Englander (and revulsion to everybody outside of this state, save Tampa) by dropping a trailer for the miniseries on Tuesday.
Take a look:
Here’s a synopsis, though, let’s be real, 90 percent of the readers living in the Greater New England Area will be able to give you Proustian detail about Julian Edelman’s catch against the Falcons or the Butler interception or any of Vinatieri’s kicks, so we’re mainly posting this for the benefit of our readers in Walla Walla:
“The untold true story behind the team you love (or love to hate). Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Matthew Hamachek (‘Tiger’), ‘The Dynasty: New England Patriots’ chronicles the rise and historic 20-year run of the Patriots during the Brady-Belichick-Kraft era. The docuseries is based on the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestselling book of the same title by author Jeff Benedict, and goes deeper, drawing on thousands of hours of never-before-seen video footage and audio files from the Patriots organization’s archive. In addition to interviews with past and present Patriots players, coaches and executives, the unparalleled access includes Kraft, Belichick, Brady, and confessionals from league officials and the archrivals of this dominant sports dynasty.”
The Dynasty: New England Patriots arrives on Apple TV+ on February 16. We know it’s timed to hit that post-Super Bowl lull for Football fans, but we’re happy that someone in Cupertino realized it would be a disaster to release this before Valentine’s Day. The divorce rate in Methuen would skyrocket.
