Those who had a surprise techno album from Freezepop on their 2024 bingo card, please stand upright. The rest of us, well… prepare to dance. The veteran Boston electronic-pop group rang in the New Year in glittery, strobe-lit fashion, releasing new alum FOG to Bandcamp — or “shock-dropped,” as they put it — right around when the ball dropped (depending on your time zone, of course). It’s the follow-up to their 2020 record Fantasizer, and as Freezepop readily admit, it’s a slight departure from their signature synth sound. Or is it? “We accidentally made a techno album this week,” the band writes on social. “Kind of. Rock it loud at your New Year’s party.” Or hey, right about now.
