Mic’d Up: Anthony Jeselnik, Hasan Minhaj, Kenice Mobley, Tim Meadows

Via The Wilbur

Editor’s Note: The holidaze is in full effect, and we’re all going to need a little somethin’ somethin’ to help us stay sane through the Yuletide insanity and seasonal depresh. With that being said, live comedy may just supply the release you’re looking for, and lucky for you, we’ve got you more than covered. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (December 10).

Anthony Jeselnik at The Wilbur

Just in time for the holiday season, ol’ Cringe Kringle makes his way back to The Wilbur for a largely sold-out run as part of his Bones and All tour. Depending on your comfort level, it’s been far too long since we last heard from Anthony Jeselnik, so to have him back in town after all that has happened since his last special, there’s no way this week won’t harbor some hard-hitting comedy therapy by way of the Pittsburgh native.

ANTHONY JESELNIK :: Wednesday, December 6 to Sunday, December 10 at The Wilbur, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: Times vary, $47 to $77 :: Advance tickets

Hasan Minhaj at Wang Theatre

There aren’t many comedians on the grind who have been able to tailor a show to be as potent as Hasan Minhaj has managed to over the years. Recent controversies aside, Minhaj continues to be one of the most powerful voices in comedy when it comes to race and culture, offering up fresh perspective in a time where that kind of thing is not only needed, but treasured.

HASAN MINHAJ :: Friday, December 8 at Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 7 and 9:45 p.m., tickets start at $53.50 :: Advance tickets

Kenice Mobley at The Rockwell

Returning to her old comedy stomping grounds, Kenice Mobley brings with her a brand new show that cuts deep into some dark, personal reflections while also delivering her highly respected comedy chops. The show is still a work-in-progress, but that doesn’t mean Mobley won’t be able to move the room as she touches on her mental health struggles among other topics, including her experiences with suffering a stroke.

KENICE MOBLEY + TOOKY KAVANAGH :: Friday, December 8 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St. in Somerville, MA :: 6:30 p.m., 21-plus, $20 :: Advance tickets

Tim Meadows at Off Cabot

Trust me, Dewey. You don’t want any of this shit. He’s a comedian named Tim Meadows, and he’s a legend. One of the best cast members Saturday Night Live ever had, and his stand-up comedy is just as good, if not better. His storytelling and observational approach allow for a relatable experience, and his calm and collected demeanor makes you feel all cozy inside. You don’t want none of this shit.

TIM MEADOWS :: Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 6 and 8:30 p.m., $30 :: Advance tickets
