SYNTHIA blast off across the synth-pop galaxy with sci-fi video ‘GO’

Just when we need it most, SYNTHIA are here from the future to save us from the present. The Boston synth-pop duo of Casey and Mary Lee Desmond raced across an electro galaxy over the weekend, unveiling debut video “GO” on Saturday (December 2) that showcases the project’s combined audio and visual identity. Inspired in part by old-school anime and video game culture, the seven-minute “GO” plays out like a short film, as SYNTHIA cruise through the stars before becoming ambushed by a rogue bounty hunter named MotorMouth.

In the SYNTHIA universe, their message of unity and love is at odds with an oppressive regime called EDEN, and it appears MotorMouth would like nothing more than to capture the sisters out of their colorful neon and deliver them into EDEN’s world of darkness. It all adds up to an impressive and engaging new sci-fi video written, directed, and produced by SYNTHIA, with the role of MotorMouth played by Paul Dodge.

The whole thing is a playful and wildly fun watch, and positions SYNTHIA as much of a visual and digital project as it is a musical outlet. And us forced to live here on this increasingly dystopian Dead Earth can only hope they come rescue us, as well.

“The production of ‘GO’ was a four year journey of creativity and resourcefulness,” SYNTHIA tells Vanyaland. “It really is a testament to what any artist is capable of with a shoe-string budget. Our influences are evident, and we try to present them in a playful way by mixing nostalgic retro-vibes with futuristic sounds. We collected old computers, synths, electronics, and more from our friends and family to build the two space ships. They also helped us assemble the sets in their spare time.”

SYNTHIA adds: “This video would not have been possible without the support of our community. That’s why this project is so much more than just a music video to us. The fabric of this production reflects the core values of what our band SYNTHIA really stands for: Unity and love.”

Help the sisters fend off the evil MotorMouth below, and stay tuned for future chapters in the SYNTHIA saga.
