Valentine’s Day is always a mad dash of chaos, rarely able to escape the suffocation of expectation. But perhaps the chillest event of the holiday goes down at Brighton Music Hall in Allston, where downtempo jazz DJ berlioz sets up shop on February 14. Billed as “if Matisse made house music,” the somewhat mysterious producer made an immediate name for himself over the summer with the release of his jazz is for ordinary people EP, an artistic outlier in the disjointed field of modern dance music. 2024 should provide even greater attention, and it starts with a tour on our side of the Atlantic. Sounds like a proper date night. “bringing berlioz to you all is going to be so joyful! I’ll make sure each night is special, you make sure to bring your dancing shoes,” he writes on Insta. “This is my first time visiting North America, I will try my best to tread lightly, who’s going to recommend some spots for me and my wife to check out on the road?” Allston, let ’em know.
