Lucius seek out mother nature’s elusive savior on ‘Stranger Danger’

Last month we noted that Lucius is coming to town early next year to showcase the 10th anniversary of debut album Wildewoman, playing Boston’s House of Blues on February 2. But Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig’s indie-pop band aren’t resting too heavily on nostalgia, as today (November 15) they deliver a heartfelt, twang-leaning, harmony-enriched single titled “Stranger Danger.”

The rallying cry for our planet’s health is the band’s first new music since last year’s Second Nature, and inaugural offering via new label Fantasy Records.

Here’s what Lucius has to say about it: “Humans have imagined a backup plan — a ‘savior’ to forgive us, to save us, to lean on.. for ourselves, if and when things go wrong but who/what/where is the backup plan for Mother Earth?”

“Stranger Danger” was written by Wolfe and Laessig alongside the band’s Dan Molad, who also produced the song, marking his first Lucius production since Wildewoman. Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith also contributes electric guitar and piano, so that’s fun.

Meanwhile, the Wildewoman: The Anniversary Tour features seven stops in total, including the Boston date plus a pair of New England shows: January 30 at Burlington’s Higher Ground and February 1 at Portland’s State Theatre.

Wildewoman was our first born, and in a lot of ways, the one that feels closest to the chest,” Lucius write. “It was the first time we really toured, had fans (!!!) singing along to our songs, traveled the world doing what we loved, and proved that with hard work & dedication, we could make a living as artists… Lately, we’ve been wanting to get back to that feeling, back to the heart of it all; we are writing new music and it’s feeling really good… but in doing that, we wanted to take a pause to honor & revisit that special time with all of you.”
