There’s a wonderful glow across the surface of The Mezz’s vibrant new single “Bridges,” which hits the streams today (November 8) via AWAL. But like most things, there’s a darker storyline closer to the hidden core. For the rising English band out of Oxford, it’s been supporting drummer Charlie Emmons as he remains cancer-free not long after his life-changing diagnosis; and for the song, it’s about deciding how to depict ourselves as authentic as possible in a social media landscape that demands anything but.

Certain things, obviously, are far more important than others, but each layer of the band helps fuel their passion and creativity into one sterling cocktail of indie thunder.

“In this song, you’ll hear my heartfelt struggle with the world’s demands on personality and appearance,” says vocalist Ben Comley. “I grapple with the choice between embracing my true self and succumbing to the pressure of crafting an idealized persona for social media consumption. It’s a constant back-and-forth, a battle between genuine happiness and the allure of conforming to societal norms for wider acceptance.”

Cross these “Bridges” with confidence.
