This Show Is Tonight: Yeah Yeah Yeahs ship back up to Boston

We were pretty disappointed back in the spring when Yeah Yeah Yeahs bailed on Boston Calling due to “illness” — talk about a Fever To Tell — with their slot filled at the last-minute by the hometown Dropkick Murphys. But our city gets another chance to dance with Karen O and the boys as the reunited New York City trio rolls back up for twirl tonight (November 6) at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. And we’re feeling our age, as the band’s iconic garage rock yearner “Maps,” a Top 5 song of the entire 2000s, was released 20 years ago this year. It still sounds as powerful as it did when we all first rushed to buy it on CD at Newbury Comics, and that’s just one of the many classics we hope fills the YYYs setlist these days. We’re going in with a wish list of “Y Control,” “Zero,” and “Heads Will Roll” alongside stuff from last year’s Cool It Down comeback record (which gave us jams like “Blacktop”, “Burning”, and “Spitting Off The Edge of the World”). Call us basic, but “Maps” remains their gold standard. Meet us in the bathrooms.
