Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of Music, Comedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.
Music: Dope Lemon at The ‘Dise
Breakout Australian artist Dope Lemon had a busy summer here in North America, taking over the festival circuit with appearances at Lollapalooza, Osheaga, and Outside Lands. Now the project of Angus Stone brings the vibe to the clubs for a fall tour that crashes the Paradise Rock Club in Boston tonight (November 3), giving us the chilled-out Friday night we need after all the Halloween madness. Dope Lemon’s new album Kimosabè hit a few weeks ago, and the groove-laden title track reflects the mood. “This record is everything that’s me,” says Dope Lemon, who steps into the spotlight via the record’s art. “In the past, the artwork has been anonymous in a way because I was trying to explore these styles, and having this shield in front of me was beautiful – I could sort of slink around in the shadows and wouldn’t have the public make judgment on the person behind it. This record, I had moments of clarity reflecting on my childhood, and I was able to see where I want to be in the future. So putting myself on the cover just felt right.” Tonight he comes front-and-center at The ‘Dise.

Comedy: Comics Come Home at TD Garden
The Boston institution known as Comics Come Home returns to the city on Saturday (November 4), and as expected, the long-running fundraiser packs an all-star lineup. Hitting this stage this weekend for the 27th edition are Pete Davidson, Orlando Baxter, Bill Burr, Lenny Clarke, Alex Edelman, Rachel Feinstein, Robert Kelly, Marc Maron and Tammy Pescatelli, with longtime host Denis Leary holding count. Since its maiden voyage in 1995, Leary and Co. have tirelessly supported The Cam Neely Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the Bruins legend and Hockey Hall of Famer, raising more than $13 million to provide comfort, support, and hope to cancer patients and their families.

Film/TV: ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ at Cinema Salem
Few things bridge the seasons from Spooky to Santa quite like The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Cinema Salem is providing a weekend-long opportunity to roll from one to the other with 12 screenings of the Tim Burton holiday classic. And that 1993 release date means one thing: We got another 30th anniversary celebration on our skeleton hands. We know you don’t need a synopsis of this one, but we’ll give it to you anyway (hey, we gotta fill some space): “The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the ‘real world’. When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life — he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.”
