We’re still not entirely over Mannequin Pussy’s summer single “I Got Heaven,” and for good reason: The raging and relentless anti-religion track should be a fixture on everyone’s Best of 2023 lists, including ours, and it proved the Philadelphia rock band are one of the more important voices in modern music (also, we weren’t sure if Marisa Dabice would ever top the immaculate “Drunk II,” from 2019 album Patience, but hey, here we are).
Turns out “I Got Heaven” isn’t simply one of the defining and cathartic tracks of this miserable and frustrating year, it’s also the title track to the band’s forthcoming album, set for release March 1 via Epitaph Records. To celebrate the news, Mannequin Pussy unveiled another track from the record, the building “I Don’t Know You,” and it shows a different side, sonically and lyrically, as it straddles a line between folk rhythms and a slowly creeping wall of noise.
“This is simply a song about having a crush,” says Dabice. “About the excitement and playful fantasy that can come from meeting someone unexpectedly at a festival, or on the street, or in line at the grocery store. You don’t know when you’ll see them again but the rush of their possibility lingers, making you yearn to know more about them.”
From getting crushed to getting a crush, Mannequin Pussy are unfuckwithable. Get into “I Don’t Know You” below.
