This Show Is Tonight: Chromeo bring ‘Adult Contemporary’ to Brighton

Back in March, Chromeo sent us all to the dance floor with “Words With You”, a funk-fueled street-walkin’ strut of time-honored confidence. Since then, Dave 1 and P-Thugg have delivered a steady beat of new singles and collaborations, including the recent “Personal Effects,” all leading up to the Montreal duo’s forthcoming new album, February’s Adult Contemporary.

A fall tour brings Chromeo back to Boston tonight (October 16) for a dance party at Roadrunner in Brighton, giving us much-needed Friday night vibes on a crisp Monday night in autumn. It should be a vibe.

The deliciously funky “Personal Effects,” meanwhile, just hit the streams n’ screens, the latter via a high-concert video directed by Spencer Ford (Troye Sivan, JAWNY, BROCKHAMPTON). Get into it below.

“This is the last song we added on the album,” says Dave 1. “I was on a flight and the pilot said, ‘please don’t forget your personal effects’ and I was like, ‘wait how come this isn’t a Chromeo song title?!’ We felt like we needed a little breezy funk… something warm and fuzzy to bop to. You notice that long instrumental bit at the end? That’s definitely a motif on the album: extended sections where we let the music ride out. Adult Contemporary is a meditation on modern, mature relationships, which means: If we gotta sing about curling irons, so be it.”

Fire ’em up.
