Dior may have flaunted its new “Spring-Summer 24” line in Paris, but the fashion show largely sounded like a Massachusetts affair.
New music from Anjimile and Augustus Muller — both artists with local ties — helped soundtrack the legendary fashion house’s latest event this past Tuesday (September 26). Models paced their straight-faced strut to a condensed version of Anjimile’s haunting single “The King” and Muller’s ambient electronic track “Subdue Yourself” during the 16-minute demonstration, which also featured avant-garde selections from from Cyprus’ Spivak and French artist Fantastic Twins.
“The King” is the title track of Anjimile’s latest record, which dropped earlier this month via 4AD, marking his first full-length album since moving from Boston to Durham, North Carolina. Muller, on the other hand, remains in Massachusetts as one half of Northampton-based darkwave group Boy Harsher.
Both artists were eager to share the stylish news on social media.
“Not ‘The King’ soundtracking part of the @dior Spring-Summer 24 show in Paris last night !!!” Anjimile wrote on Instagram.
“My track ‘Subdue Yourself’ featuring Miss Marilyn was used for @dior summer 2024 unveiling in Paris yesterday,” Muller also shared on Instagram. “It’s wild too [sic] see this break into the mainstream consciousness.”
Dior seems to have — intentionally or not — taken a vested interest in Massachusetts music this fall. In addition to these soundtrack selections, the French label recently provided uniforms for student musicians at No Label Academy, which took place at Harvard University’s Allston and Cambridge campuses.
