Editor’s Note: The vibes of football season, eating more apples off of trees than you actually pick, and what will inevitably be droves of I Think You Should Leave Halloween costumes (sexy pig with a Nixon mask, anyone?) are feeling more within reach by the day now as we say goodbye to summer and usher in summer (September’s version). However, live comedy is an four-season jamboree, and lucky for you, we’ve got you covered. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (September 17).
Michael Yo at Laugh Boston
You can really bring a room to eruption with the right mix of unique perspective and simply just being genuine. Michael Yo carries both of those attributes in buckets, and you’ll have plenty of chances to see it played out in real time this week at the neatest club in the Seaport. We’d get there while you can, too, because he may not be working in rooms of that size for very long.
MICHAEL YO :: Thursday, September 14 to Saturday, September 16 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 6 p.m., and Saturday at 6 and 9 p.m., $29 :: Advance Tickets
Jenny Zigrino at White Bull Tavern
It’s never a bad time when a homegrown comedy talent, especially one at the caliber of Jenny Zigrino, returns for a fun night at one of the city’s most highly-touted shows. Working on a brand new hour following the release of her first special earlier this year, the MassArt alum continues to bring her honest and upfront observational comedy to the masses with a dangerously sharp bite and a penchant for connecting with her audience that will make this one of the best shows you’ll see all year.
JENNY ZIGRINO :: Friday, September 15 at White Bull Tavern, 1 Union St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $20 :: Advance Tickets
Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood at The Cabot
When it comes to improv, there are very few that can boast the chops held by Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood. With their latest show jam packed with “find out as you go” adventure, the Whose Line Is It Anyway? alums continue to put on a masterclass clinic of what it takes to bring your audience along for the ride.
COLIN MOCHRIE & BRAD SHERWOOD: THE SCARED SCRIPTLESS TOUR :: Friday, September 15 at The Cabot, 286 Cabot St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., tickets start at $45.50 :: Advance Tickets
Eddie Izzard at Chevalier Theatre
The material may sound familiar, but the feeling behind it is fresh. With a 35 year archive at the ready, Izzard brings her retrospective show to Medford for a weekend of absurdly detailed stories, searingly brutal and honest observations, and a legendary career’s worth of inspiration that is sure to be as nostalgic for the longtime fans as it is a jarring introduction for the next generation.
EDDIE IZZARD THE REMIX: THE FIRST 35 YEARS :: Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17 at Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 8 p.m., $61.90 to $130.90 :: Advance Tickets
