Editor’s Note: “Boston Thriving” is an ongoing series from Vanyaland highlighting and honoring the national and global success of Boston- and New England-based bands and artists.
Jessye DeSilva’s new record Renovations has reached the South, and apparently an Apple Music host is among their fans. A new episode of Proud Radio — released via Apple Music Country — highlights DeSilva’s tune “Dysphoria” as host Hunter Kelly’s “proud pick” of the week. The feature places the Boston folk artist alongside an interview with special guest Melissa Etheridge.
DeSilva excitedly took to social media to announce the episode ahead of its arrival this past Saturday (September 2).
“To have my song featured on the same episode as @melissa_etheridge means the WORLD,” they share in an Instagram post. “She was one of the first OUT Queer musicians I ever had the joy of listening to as a kid, and her influence on my own brand of folk-tinged-rock is immeasurable.”
Kelly’s show is no stranger to Massachusetts-raised talent; for instance, Izzy Heltai spoke on the show’s “Pride Roundtable” with other LGBTQIA+ artists in a June episode.
