From the candy to the punk band to a criminally slept-on teen movie from the ’90s, a “Jawbreaker” can mean many things to many people. But from this day (August 17) forward, it now has the sweetest meaning of them all: A delectable synth-pop pinwheel of a tune from Catherine Moan, the latest in the Philadelphia project’s candy-land production line of sugary sweet electronic-pop that’s easy to digest and hard to pass up.

Word on the street is that “Jawbreaker,” another steady styled release from Born Losers Records, marks a new era for Catherine Moan’s main protagonist and songwriter Angel Jefferson. And what’s yet to be unwrapped, based on this certified bop where the sparkle is sprinkled, is fairly enticing.

“The track comes from the point of view of someone who feels replaceable, hard to love, and ultimately feels damaged by another’s actions,” says Jefferson. “A ‘Jawbreaker’ is a lover not meant to last. The song is upbeat, with a broody pumping bass and vocals that sway between bright, snappy, and gloomy.”

Just try to chew on that.
