The Summer of Chappell Roan rages on. But it’s really just one episode in the Year of Chappell Roan.
A few weeks ago we relayed word of the alt-pop rhinestone cowgirl comet’s debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess — which we’ve already dubbed a greatest hits record — set for September 22 release via Amusement / Island Records. We’ve also firmly planted May’s queer anthem “Red Wine Supernova” in our forthcoming Best of 2023 list, and Roan’s October 15 romp at Boston’s House of Blues is highlighted on our calendar in the sluttiest hot-pink circle imaginable.
Now she’s serving up some more aural goodness through “HOT TO GO!” a fiery sing-along cheerleader bop that hit the streams this past Friday (August 11). It’s another wink-and-nod for one of our generation’s finest and most engaging songwriters, and adds to her already iconic catalog. Talk about a hot streak.
“I wrote this song so I could live out my cheerleader fantasy!” says Roan. “I just wanted to make something simple and silly that I could do with the audience because I’m a huge fan of audience participation. Also, selfishly (and shamelessly) wanted to bounce around on stage singing a song about being hot.”
No shame in that game.
Fire up “HOT TO GO!” below via Spotify, or let the video take you to Roan’s home in Willard, Missouri where she invites us all to dance along with a super fun instructional video. Those moves will come in handy this fall.
