Velvet Dreaming sees red in their ‘2 Far’ music video

Velvet Dreaming’s new music video presents the color palette of destruction.

Boston solo artist Kade Thibodeau displays an imploding relationship with shades of scarlet and ruby in their video for “2 Far,” which arrived earlier this month (July 8). The visual channels a frustrated tone with its fiery selection of imagery, from a hammer pummeling a tomato, to the swift movement of Thibodeau’s candy-apple-colored platform heels.

“The song is about a sudden end to a close friendship of mine, one I felt was destroyed — that’s where the hammer and tomato come in,” Thibodeau tells Vanyaland. “I tried to emulate rage and just let go while smashing the tomato.”

Video director Tomás Orrego initially leaned towards incorporating explosions in the video, but eventually pared down the concept for a more primal and stylized — not to mention safer — approach. “Distant memory, if that’s what you want me to be / You’re too far away, have you said everything you needed to say?” Thibodeau sings as tomato pulp splatters across their punchy hyper-pop.

“This gave the video a confrontational approach which grew more once we talked about having Kade wear two different outfits,” Orrego explains. “When I was editing it I realized that it was as if two versions of Kade were fighting each other, which was fun!”
