When CLUB INDGO see red flags, they throw up a white one — but not before calling b.s. The New England musical collective gathers ‘round to roast a non-committal lover on their new release “Show You Off,” released today (July 14).
The song and video merge the talents of Boston rap group ILL ADDICTS, Rhode Island singer Sança, Boston producer Buu, and Massachusetts photographer Dalvin Lopes to craft a comically straightforward hook: “I’d love to show you off / But you keep fuckin’ up.” Their sharp choice of language is buoyed by the track’s exuberant beat, which bounces to the rhythm of the collective’s romantic “are-we-or-aren’t-we?” quandary. The concept stems from the sleepless mind of producer ProSwervez, who dreamt up the song’s foundation during a 2 a.m. freestyle.
“I ended up making the hook about the feeling of being in a relationship with someone where you want to give it your all, but there’s just too many red flags for you to go all the way with it,” he tells Vanyaland. “A-one-foot in, one-foot-out sort of situation. Once I brought it to the rest of the crew all the pieces just fell right into place.”
“There are no good or bad ideas,” adds songwriter and ILL ADDICTS member Juelz. ”Everything gets explored. The cool thing is we all know when something sounds or feels special.”
