Check out Wolverine’s throwback threads in ‘Deadpool 3’

It’s been a weird couple of months for Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3, which burst onto the scene with a great deal of hype thanks to the fact that, somehow, some way, Ryan Reynolds (and a Brinks truck full of money) got Hugh Jackman to return to the role that made him a household name: James Howlett. Or Logan. Or Wolverine. Whatever. He’s had so many different names at this point that it’s hard to keep track. But then came the writer’s strike, which made it so Reynolds couldn’t improv on-set, and then came Disney eating some shit at the box office (Guardians is likely to be their highest-grossing release this year, which is… something), and now it seems like a whole lot of hope is being held out that this thing will be amazing, a kind of No Way Home for all of the folks out there who really loved the Fox X-Men movies (and, apparently, Elektra). Unsurprisingly, it’s looking like it might actually hit those fan-service sweet spots because Ryan Reynolds dropped this picture on his Instagram Stories earlier on Monday morning (thanks, IGN!), and boy, howdy, that’s some “tight yellow spandex” that Jackman’s wearing.

Yep, that’s right: The Canuck Who Runs Amok will be wearing his classic threads — or at least the variation of them that was from Joss Whedon’s run on Astonishing X-Men, which was, prior to Whedon’s Fall from Grace, one of the most beloved modern runs for an X-Book. It only took twenty years and a ton of snide lampshading, but modern culture has finally made it so that we’re getting a comic-book-accurate Wolverine costume before we get a proper MCU X-Men movie. In a fucking Deadpool movie, of all things. To be fair, James Mangold did his best to tease Jackman donning the brown-and-yellow duds the character wore in the classic Claremont/Miller miniseries at the end of The Wolverine, but that got quickly forgotten about by the time Days of Future Past rolled around. Also, it seems that a lot of the rumors around this movie are panning out to be true, which is… something!

Anyhow, Deadpool 3 hits theaters on May 3, 2024. Get yourself some chimichangas, because it might be an even longer wait.
