It’s passé to get lost in a trivial pursuit of the Song of the Summer. Instead, we’re simply aiming to discover music that moves us through the salty season, and Night Drive have shifted a new entry into our heated playlists with “Summerwaves,” an urgent modern post-punk joyride that today (June 28) surfaces in sci-fi cinematic color. Inspired by both a sense of forward-march freedom and retro nostalgia, the vivid single will be on the Texas project’s forthcoming EP Position II, out August 4. “I had this dream that our band was called ‘The Positions’,” says Brandon Duhon. “Since we’d already established ourselves as Night Drive, we had the idea to release a group of EPs named Position I, Position II, etc, which would ultimately culminate into a compilation album of the same name”.
