Kate Teague confronts late-night fears and her ‘Poison Mind’

It’s been said that our worst fears often find us late at night, when we’re alone and vulnerable and the darkness allows time and space to mentally fuck with us in new ways. Kate Teague has been up many nights facing these personal demons, and the cycle is at the core of her haunting new single “Poison Mind.” The Memphis-based singer-songwriter releases the single and video today (June 27), part of a larger announcement of a new EP, Loose Screw, set for August 11 release.

“You know that feeling you get when you finally lay in your bed,” Teague asks, “and all your fears just start talking at you? And your heart starts to race. This song is about that.”

The “Poison Mind” visual was directed by Joshua Cannon (Bass Drum of Death, Bailey Bigger), who adds: “I was so excited when Kate shared early mixes of her new EP with me. It immediately felt cinematic — every track was worthy of a video. We landed on ‘Poison Mind,’ and from the jump Kate had such strong ideas of how to visualize the insidious nature of anxiety, which I related to deeply as someone who struggles with that. It was a joy helping to bring her concept to life, and really just a dream collaboration across the board.”

In this world, a simple dream would be very much welcome. Sure beats laying in bed trapped with those thoughts.
