V3 Weekend: Dalton & the Sheriffs, Brian Glowacki, ‘The Wicker Man’

Courtesy of the band

Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

MusicDalton & the Sheriffs at Leader Bank Pavilion

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: It’s a damn marvel how Dalton & The Sheriffs can fill any kind of stage, from the boozy corner pub to the big tent under the bright (harbor) lights. This Saturday (June 24), the modern country band and Badge Boys of Boston are back on one of the biggest in town, holding court at Leader Bank Pavilion for a weekend throwdown by the water. Maine’s Toby McAllister and our very own hometown stalwarts Ward Hayden and the Outliers (who we’re also stoked to see get some shine under the tent) are on board to get things started. Last year, Dalton & The Sheriffs released a new record called We’re Still Here, which earned Album of the Year honors at the New England Music Awards and led to a Country Artist of the Year win at the Boston Music Awards. Not a bad haul for a band that stays true to its DIY ethos. Check out video of their 2021 appearance at the Pavilion for a taste of the action.

DALTON & THE SHERIFFS + TOBY MCALLISTER + WARD HAYDEN AND THE OUTLIERS :: Saturday, June 24 at Leader Bank Pavilion, 290 Northern Ave. in Boston, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $25 :: Event page :: Advance tickets

Comedy: Brian Glowacki at The Wilbur

Those who hit the inaugural Vanyaland Comedy Festival last summer were in for a treat, as Brian Glowacki rolled into Medfield and capped off a unique and memorable day of laughs at the Bellforge Arts Center. But when he’s not out in the field, he’s under the marquee, and the Nantucket native is back in town this Saturday for a return to The Wilbur, where last spring BGlow made Boston comedy history as the first independent, unsigned comedian to headline the venue. Mic’d Up takes it from here: “Nantucket’s favorite son returns to Tremont Street to double down on his history within the legendary venue. Equipped with a fresh run of jokes and stories, Glowacki is prepped for a night filled with some inland insanity that is sure to only expand his already extensive reach in the comedy game.”

BRIAN GLOWACKI :: Saturday, June 24 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $32 :: Advance Tickets

Film/TV: ‘The Wicker Man’ at Somerville Theatre

The annual Summer Solstice brings many treats, and this year, with an assist from STUDIOCANAL, we’re gifted a 50th anniversary 4K restoration of The Wicker Man. Robin Hardy’s folk-horror classic screens at the Somerville Theatre tonight to Thursday (June 23 to 29), giving us several chances to sing along to “Sumer Is Icumen In” as we freak out the neighbors. Here’s a recap for those who need memory-refreshing: “After receiving an anonymous letter about a missing 12-year-old girl, devout Christian and dedicated cop Neil Howie (Edward Woodward) travels by seaplane to a remote Scottish island to investigate. But the islanders welcome neither his badge nor religious devotion, for laird of the isle Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee) and his devoted followers worship only the pagan gods of old — and those gods demand a sacrifice. Howie fears for the missing girl’s life and follows every possible lead to find her — despite the islanders’ interfering machinations — before she becomes a human sacrificial lamb.” ‘Tis the season.

‘THE WICKER MAN’ :: Friday, June 23 to Thursday, June 29 at The Somerville Theatre, 55 David Square in Somerville, MA :: Various showtimes :: Event page
