Slowdive, September 25
Perhaps the best news this week was shoegaze and dream-pop legends Slowdive unveiling a new song (the wonderful “kisses”), detailing a new album (September’s everything is alive), and outlining a North American tour that plays Citizens House of Blues on September 25. The new album is Slowdive’s fifth, and first since 2017’s self-titled comeback record, which arrived 22 years after its predecessor. everything is alive is dedicated to Rachel Goswell’s mother and Simon Scott’s father, who both passed away in 2020, and is said to explore themes of life and hope against a backdrop of darker times. Guitarist and vocalist Neil Halstead sums it up: “It wouldn’t feel right to make a really dark record right now. The album is quite eclectic emotionally, but it does feel hopeful.” It should sound huge on Lansdowne. Tickets go on sale Friday (June 23) at 10 a.m. local time.
