Those who have yet to check out “THE ONE (IF U TOUCH ME),” the latest self-release by Orlando-born and Los Angeles-based songwriter Bronze Avery, have a chance to get ahead of the curve. This early contender for Song of the Summer has, somehow, gone criminally under the radar.
A follow-up to Avery’s 2022 full-length album SOFTMETAL, “THE ONE” is just part of his forthcoming project HEATWAVE, a self-described “collection of summer songs made to make you sweat.” The track, which dropped June 9, is a delightful blend of simpler early 2010s pop pureness with hyperpop-tinged influences from the likes of Charli XCX or a mellowed-out 100 gecs.
On Twitter, Avery took time to reflect ahead of the single’s release: “i’ve been releasing music for over six years and it truly never gets old. so ready for you all to hear the world i’ve been living in. it’s so fun and sexy and carefree and all about letting go and not being afraid to dance ! pop star energy.”
“Pop star energy” is a spot-on descriptor for both “THE ONE” and the trajectory Avery is so clearly on. Sprinkle the track onto your poolside playlists, and be sure to keep an eye out for more from this standout pop star in the making.
