Is it possible that Sony, of all companies, is winning the 2023 Superhero Box-Office War? Sure, they’ve only released one title so far – Across the Spider-Verse – but they haven’t had a phase-altering flop (Quantumania) or two successive duds (Shazam: Fury of the Gods and The Flash) yet. There’s still plenty of time for that to change, though: the first trailer for J.C. Chandor’s Kraven the Hunter dropped late Monday night, and hoo boy, if all y’all motherfuckers out there love them some campy Venom, you’re probably gonna go gaga for an R-Rated Aaron Taylor Johnson animal-tamer flick. Don’t count them out, though: Everybody loved to windmill dunk on the Venom movies before they came out, made a cool billion at the box office, and again, warmed the hearts of audiences around the world.
Peep it (though maybe not at work, given that it’s a Red-Band trailer):

Here’s an official synopsis, courtesy of Marca:
“The new ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off ‘Kraven The Hunter’ will focus its story on one of the most prevalent villains in the superhero’s comics, second only to Venom. The fearsome Sergei Kravinoff, who always had a knack for taking down large animals, met a voodoo sorcerer named Calypso who gave him a potion to enhance his physical powers and extend his lifespan. In the film, the fearsome ‘Kraven the Hunter’ is tasked by his partner and brother, Dmitri Smerdyakov ‘The Chameleon’, to hunt down the notorious hero who travels the streets leaping from rooftop to rooftop, punishing villains and protecting the city’s inhabitants. To accomplish his mission, the villain will return to the city to come face to face with Spider-Man.”
Kraven the Hunter hits theaters on October 6.
