Editor’s Note: The summer is finally here, and with it, the delicate New England balance between cold and rainy days and uncomfortably humid nights. What helps with keeping that balance bearable is the fact that indoor spaces are air conditioned, and most comedy shows are indoors (you see where we’re going with this, right?). With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (June 18).
Jared Freid at Artists For Humanity EpiCenter
Showing support for his local community, Freid makes his way back to his native Massachusetts to deliver another batch of his untethered and wildly relatable comedy that has brought him all over the world. A homecoming is one thing, and always something that makes Freid’s comedy even more exciting, but to have the added bonus of it being for a good cause? That’s what’s up.
JARED FREID :: Wednesday, June 14 at Artists For Humanity, 100 W. 2nd St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $70 at the door :: Event Info
Leslie Jones at The Wilbur
With all of the energy and pizazz we’ve come to know and love her for, Jones returns to The Wilbur with a new hour that, based on her past work on stage, is a guarantee to know no chill. Where the topics of the evening will go, nobody really knows, but that’s just one part of what makes Jones’ comedy force such an enjoyable presence.
LESLIE JONES :: Thursday, June 15 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m., $39 to $69 :: Advance Tickets
Greg Fitzsimmons at Laugh Boston
Back in ye olde stomping grounds for the weekend, you better believe Fitzsimmons is bringing his A-game back to where it all began for him many moons ago. Of course, it’s not often that he isn’t bringing his best, but the longtime comedian’s dangerously sharp approach to the stage continues to cut as deep as ever, and will sure make for a great experience during a night out in the city.
GREG FITZSIMMONS :: Friday, June 16 & Saturday, June 17 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 6 and 9 p.m., $33 :: Advance Tickets
Katie Arroyo at Nick’s Comedy Stop
With virtually no filter, and quite a repertoire to pull from, Arroyo brings her upfront and unflinching comedy to the headlining spotlight of one of the city’s most legendary clubs. While she may not be out to verbally stun you, the paths she takes to bring out each punchline pulls no punches along the way.
KATIE ARROYO :: Saturday, June 17 at Nick’s Comedy Stop, 100 Warrenton St. in Boston, MA :: 8 p.m., $22 :: Advance Tickets
