The ‘Expend4bles’ trailer is an early Father’s Day gift from Stallone

Expend4bles
EX4 Productions/Lionsgate

Hey, did you know that they’re still making Expendables movies? Much like the plot of any given Rocky movie, you just can’t keep Sly Stallone down: we’re sure that the dude already has a motivational speech — and a swift right hook — prepared for us just for asking that question. But yes, they are still making Expendables movies, and this one’s different. How? Well, Jason Statham’s the top-billed lead here, with 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Iko Uwais, and Tony Jaa as the new members of the cast alongside returning stars Dolph Lundgren (our man), Randy Couture, and Sly, who, as structured in this sentence, is somehow given an “and” credit rather than top-line billing.

Also, the ‘4’ is replacing the ‘A’ in the title. Expend4bles. We’re guessing it’s because they can retroactively go back and add digits in the titles of the other films, too (Expendab1es, Expend2bles, 3xpendibles, etc.) What a weird world! Anyhow, Lionsgate dropped a trailer for the movie earlier on Wednesday, and it is pretty deliciously goofy, which is what you get when you hire Scott Waugh, younger brother of go-to B-action director Ric Roman, to direct your movie. Guy did Act of Valor!

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis, which we’re imaging just sort of exists as a boilerplate template in the Lionsgate offices now whenever Stallone rolls up with a new crew:

“A new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in ‘Expend4bles.’ Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning.”

You know, we’re legitimately kind of stunned that Andy Garcia hasn’t been in one of these things yet. That’s pretty weird!

Expend4bles hits theaters on September 22, and we are genuinely kind of shocked that this isn’t coming out in August! Wow.
