Echo Ladies are inviting us into their world of intricate, layered dream-pop, but the subject matter behind the Swedish trio’s new single “Awake,” which hits the streams today (June 1), is the stuff that fuels insomnia.
“‘Awake’ is a song about the feeling of drifting apart from each other in a relationship,” Echo Ladies relay. “The feeling of being left behind and forgotten and how small of a person that makes you feel, hoping it’s all a bad dream and wishing to wake up again.”
With a ‘gazing haze and haunting melodic sentiment that hovers steadily above through suspended sonic gravity, “Awake” arrives as the Malmö band reveals word of sophomore album Lillies, set for release September 8 via Rama Lama Records/Gazehop Records. This new single feels like one chapter to a larger, more vivid picture that’s set to unfold through the senses and the speakers.
“While our past material conveyed feelings of nostalgia and hope for the future mixed with worries and anxieties about defining who you are and what you will become,” Echo Ladies admit, “Lillies instead tries to balance the emotions of sorrow and loneliness, with anger, frustration, and the determination to make a change for the better. This album really carries the Echo Ladies mantra that ‘Nothing Ever Lasts’ — good things can come to an end, but bad things will also pass.”
