Claud shows their genre dynamism with ‘Wet’ and ‘Crumbs’

Earlier this week Claud returned with a pair of new singles that shows off the rising artist’s lyrical dynamism. Fresh off the release of early-May offering “Every Fucking Time,” Claud now delivers “Wet” and “Crumbs,” two tracks that are the latest in a series that sets up their forthcoming sophomore album Supermodels, which lands via Saddest Factory Records on July 14.

In “Wet,” Claud tells the story of a convoluted, messy relationship with logistical ease. A tight pop track reminiscent of early-’10s indie darlings like Phoenix or The Naked and Famous, the single oozes of cool, from its percussive loops to the nonchalance of the lyrical delivery.

“Crumbs” sounds more similar to the acoustic “Every Fucking Time” than “Wet,” but is as precisely well-executed. Delicately layered vocals sit with guitar on this song, painting a picture of domestic vulnerability as the singer recounts the little details about life with a partner.

“‘Crumbs’ was born out of a couple tearful days inside, while ‘Wet’ was written in one fast sitting, the writing process as kinetic as the outcome,” Claud says. “Writing both of these songs felt like dropping a boulder into a pond, really shaking up the way I look at myself as an artist. My hands tremble when I play these songs for people, which means I’ve accessed a new vulnerability in my songwriting that I hadn’t gotten to before.”

Fans will have the opportunity to hear Claud share these tracks and the rest of the album at a newly-announced tour, a run that includes a September 17 stop at Brighton Music Hall in Allston. Dive in below.
