Boston Calling is this weekend, and suddenly comes news that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are now No No Nos. They’ll be replaced by Dropkick Murphys, according to the festival.
Word came down on Thursday (May 25), with the festival blaming the withdrawal on an unspecified illness within the New York City band. Update: The YYYs posted an update to Twitter; read it below.
And beyond all the Fever To Tell jokes, that’s a shame, as we just listed “Maps” as one of the songs we’re looking forward to hearing most this holiday weekend. Guess we’ll add “Shipping Up To Boston” in its place — score one for local music.
Here’s the official word from Boston Calling:
“Due to an illness within the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the band will no longer be able to perform at Boston Calling. The festival has added Dropkick Murphys, Boston’s own beloved Celtic punk band, to the lineup.
Dropkick Murphys will perform at 5:55 p.m. on Friday May 26, and The National will now perform at 7:05 p.m., before Foo Fighters close out the first night of the festival.
Boston Calling will take place Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 to 28, 2023, at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston (65 North Harvard Street, Boston).“
