Any blurb about Smoking Popes demands to come with declarative word that “Need You Around” remains one of the greatest and most underrated songs of the ’90s. Seriously, just listen to it below, and think of all the bands and artists that have ripped it off since (looking at you, Morrissey). But we mention all this because the Chicago pop-punk band is headed out for a handful of Midwest and Northeast tour dates towards the end of summer, bringing Boston’s very own Future Teens along for a few shows, including a September 3 romp at Brighton Music Hall in Allston. Hit it up; nearly 30 years later, they still need you around. Tickets go on sale Wednesday (May 24) at noon.
