From The Charlatans to K.Flay, every songwriter worth his, her, or their salt has a bit of “Weirdo” in them. Now Tom A. Smith is showing off his own, as the perpetually rising English artist has unveiled a fiery and euphoric new single that’s another taste to a new EP out this summer. Smith’s “Weirdo” packs a lot into a breathless 165 seconds, blending the sweat-fueled urgency of Springsteen with the pop polish of ’80s-era New Romanticism. In short, it’s a total fucking bop, and am ambitious one at that. “I like ‘Weirdo’ a lot,” Smith says. “I’ve always wanted to write something a little bit silly and can tell from the reaction to it live that it makes people smile. People can relate to it because we’re all weirdos in a way.” Smith’s EP3 is out June 30.
