Throughout the ascension of her comedy career, Atsuko Okatsuka has brought her top-tier observational and storytelling comedy to Boston at a few different points, with each visit more potent than the last. Now she’s coming back to show us how she’s a ‘Full Grown Adult.’
Bringing her Full Grown Adult tour to Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on November 10, Okatsuka brings with her a brand new slate of material following the release of her debut hour, The Intruder, which premiered on HBO in December 2022. The special was met with critical acclaim, and served as the cherry on top of a year that landed her in a number “best of” lists, including Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2022, and also brought her to clubs and theaters all over the country. In addition to her work on stage, 2023 has also found her cast in the Mel Brooks-led History Of The World, Pt. II on Hulu.
Returning for the second time in less than a year, Ramy Youssef brings his latest back to The Wilbur on July 13. In addition to being the creator of his eponymous Hulu series Ramy, which premiered its third season in late 2022, Youssef also serves as co-creator and Executive Priducer on the hit Netflix series Mo, starring Mo Amer, which is slated for its second season at a later date. Later in 2023, Youssef is also set to star alongside Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Mark Ruffalo in Yorgos Lanthimos’ highly anticipated film Poor Things.
Comedy sketch trio Please Don’t Destroy will continue their gradual tear through the comedy scene with a stop at The Wilbur on July 30. In addition to their work as writers for Saturday Night Live, which has yielded such sketches and videos including “Three Sad Virgins,” “Good Variant,” and “Hard Seltzer,” among others, the trio of Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy is also prepping for the release of their first movie, directed by Judd Apatow, which is slated for release on November 17 on Peacock.
Magician and comedian Justin Willman is bringing his mix of laughs and illusion to The Wilbur as part of his Magic For Humans in Person tour on October 13. While Willman has certainly had his fair share of television appearances as both guest and host over the years, the live show he’s bringing to audiences all over the country gets its inspiration from his hit Netflix show of the name, of which it’s most recent third season premiered in 2020.
While The Wilbur is bumpin’, Jenny Yang is keeping it real in Somerville as she brings the critically-acclaimed stand-up chops found in Comedy Crossing, a stand-up comedy show hosted inside of her Animal Crossing game and streamed via Zoom, to Crystal Ballroom on July 26. Honoring her roots as a former labor organizer and advocate, Yang has raised over $40,000 for Black Lives Matter-related causes with the unique setup of the Animal Crossing shows since June 2020, and was honored by President Obama as a “White House Champion of Change” for her leadership in “Asian American and Pacific Islander Art and Storytelling” in 2016.
Additionally, Nick Mullen has added a second show to his stop at The Wilbur with a 7 p.m. gig on September 16.
Tickets to these shows can be accessed via The Regulars pre-sale now, before public pre-sale can be accessed using the code VANYA starting Thursday (May 18) at 10 a.m. ET. General on-sale for these shows start Friday (May 19) at 10 a.m. ET, with the exception of Yang and Mullen, which go on sale at noon ET.
