Well, CinemaCon is, for the most part, over and done with. But the Walt Disney Company came through in the clutch on Wednesday with some new looks at their biggest releases: Indiana Jones, The Little Mermaid, Elemental, The Haunted Mansion, and… A Haunting in Venice? That’s right — if you expected the pandemic-related delays, cannibalism charges, and anti-vax rhetoric to slow down the train that is Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot adaptations, well, you’d be wrong. And this time, Branagh’s leaning back into the horror-thriller, which we’re hoping might be better than, say, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. But based on this trailer, we’re confident that it probably will be.
Take a look:
Here’s a synopsis, though, as always, you could just read Hallowe’en Party, which is the Agatha Christe book it’s adapting:
‘”A Haunting in Venice’ is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, ‘A Haunting in Venice’ is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.”
And, more importantly, from the same press release, here’s the cast list:
“A brilliant acting ensemble portrays a cast of unforgettable characters, including Kenneth Branagh, Kyle Allen (‘Rosaline’), Camille Cottin (‘Call My Agent’), Jamie Dornan (‘Belfast’), Tina Fey (‘30 Rock’), Jude Hill (‘Belfast’), Ali Khan (‘6 Underground’), Emma Laird (‘Mayor of Kingstown’), Kelly Reilly (‘Yellowstone’), Riccardo Scamarcio (‘Caravaggio’s Shadow’), and recent Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’).”
Whoa. A Haunting in Venice will hit your eyes like a big pizza pie on September 15. That’s some amore, right there.
