Editor’s Note: After what felt like an endless winter, spring has finally sprung, and we’re here for all it entails. And while the refreshing breezes and start of baseball season have us itching to get outside and shake off the rust of hibernation, the comedy juggernauts posting up around town are making the decision to make our way inside clubs and theaters almost too easy. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to bring the rain, kinda like those “April showers” we’ve always heard about. As the days finally become warmer and we start to thaw from the bitter cold, we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (April 30).
Kenice Mobley at Middlesex
Following a year in which she released her first stand-up album, Kenice Mobley is bringing us a whole new serving of top-shelf comedy that pulls no punches — and makes you think. As one of the most well-respected and appreciated comics on the scene today, Mobley meshes substance with untethered musings that carry the night into the stratosphere.
KENICE MOBLEY :: Wednesday, April 26 at Middlesex, 315 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge, MA :: 7:30 p.m., Free admission :: RSVP
Jimmy Cash & Mike McDonald at Apex Entertainment
It’s a true marriage of the old school and new era of Massachusetts comedy as the continuously growing force of Jimmy Cash and the stone cold grassroots legend of Mike McDonald bring a top-tier night of comedy to Marlborough. Not to mention, in addition to Andrew Della Volpe working as host for the evening, it’s at a damn indoor amusement park. A win-win-win all around.
JIMMY CASH & MIKE MCDONALD :: Friday, April 28 at Apex Entertainment, 21 Apex Dr. in Marlborough, MA :: 6 p.m., $30 to $60 :: Advance Tickets
Sam Buck & Mitch Stinson at The Comedy Scene
Two heads are always better then one, especially when they’re both hilarious. In addition to Stinson’s long-standing comedic force, make no mistake that Buck’s detour from a headlining weekend originally intended for Nick’s Comedy Stop will still harness the same amount of stand-up crushing that the locally forged comic has become known for.
SAM BUCK & MITCH STINSON :: Friday, April 28 & Saturday, April 29 at The Comedy Scene, 200 Patriot Place in Foxborough, MA :: 8 p.m. both nights, $22 :: Advance Tickets
Impractical Jokers at Wang Theatre
Another year, another ridiculous your name. But, what comes fresh is the new fully-loaded multimedia show from the superstar tricksters as they return to the city with a whole new delivery of hijinks straight from the comedically demented minds of Sal, Murr, and Q. There’s no telling what’s in store, and that’s the best part.
IMPRACTICAL JOKERS :: Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at The Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 5 and 8 p.m., $39 to $53.50 :: Advance Tickets
