MonaVeli doesn’t mind playing the antagonist in the heads of her haters. The Boston rapper sashays into her villain era with “BAD GUY,” a brassy ’n’ ballsy new single about thriving in the face of skeptics. “Said he wanna party with a demon / Move like I’m schemin,’” she raps over a booming horn section, like a femme fatale prowling a dimly-lit corner of a jazz club.
“’BAD GUY’ is all about taking any and all negativity that’s ever been thrown at you and using it to lift yourself up,” MonaVeli tells Vanyaland. “It represents stepping into your full self unapologetically and fearlessly setting boundaries, even if that looks like being the ‘bad guy’ in somebody else’s story.”
