Harker break through the screens with a punk fury on ‘Wasting Time’

Every now and again we like to play the “Fucking Alright, This Is Good” game. The rules are fairly simple: We hear a new song from a band we’re relatively unfamiliar with, and if we think “fucking alright, this is good” at any point during its run time, we all win a prize. That prize is the new tune in question, of course, and the latest winning entry comes from English punk band Harker, who rolled out a propulsive new jammer this past Friday (March 31) called “Wasting Time.” And it does anything but.

In fact, what it does do it take us back a bit to the glory days of bratty ’90s-era punk and alternative, culminating in a chaotic swell of noise that has us chanting the above on repeat. And though packed with a throwback vibe, the song is deeply rooted in our current-day dilemmas.

“‘Wasting Time’ is about the breakdown of communication in modern life — it’s easy to misunderstand and mislead when you only talk through a digital screen,” Harker say. “Talk to your loved ones in person, debate face to face, and know when to set your boundaries if it’s not working. ‘Wasting Time’ is a back to basics, four-chord post-punk pop ruckus track — heavy hooks and fuzzed out guitar walls, just how we like it.”

Hey, we like it too.
