Chris Hemsworth is back to kick more ass in the ‘Extraction 2’ teaser

Out of all of the pandemic-era Netflix “hits,” we’ve gotta say that Extraction was probably among the best of them, up with Project Power (which was fun and stylish, sue us). It’s definitely one of the better Netflix action releases that they didn’t outright acquire — The Night Comes for Us will always hold the title of “Best Netflix Original Action Movie,” after all — and it sure as hell was better than garbage like The Old Guard (remember when people thought that movie was a bona fide summer blockbuster?) and any number of their big-budget projects released in the interim. Well, you can’t keep a good Aussie down, even if you tried to suggest he died at the end of the movie before revealing he didn’t in a post-credits sequence, so Chris Hemsworth is back in the saddle for Extraction 2. Netflix dropped a trailer for the streaming release earlier on Monday, and we can’t tell if this actually looks good or if we love Chris Hemsworth enough to convince ourselves that it looks good.

Here’s a typically cagey Netflix synopsis:

Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in ‘Extraction 2,’ the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film ‘Extraction’. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Extraction 2 will arrive on Netflix on June 16. We’re just hoping and praying that it’s better than The Gray Man, which sort of came and went about as quickly as a flash-in-the-pan streaming “hit” can. After all, you’re always gonna get outcompeted by, like, another fucking Waco doc, no matter how much money you pour into your original IP. It’s just the nature of the beast.
