Add some bloody Cage to your week with the new ‘Renfield’ trailer

Renfield
Universal

We know you clicked on this Renfield post because Nicolas Cage is playing Dracula and who wouldn’t, but we just want to quickly stun you with a Nicholas Hoult-related oddity that we discovered just a few weeks ago. Did you know there are Mad Max: Fury Road slot machines? Sure, they make them for any media property these days — there’s a Crazy Rich Asians one, for instance — but we were genuinely fascinated by their presence on the floor of Encore Boston Harbor. They’re incomprehensible, like most modern slots, but what they lose in the shell-game style of confusion they more than make up for in the sound department. We’re pretty sure we’ve got tinnitus just from one or two lever-pulls. Anyhow, Universal dropped a new trailer for Nicolas v. Nicholas: Dawn of Hammery earlier on Wednesday, and guess what? It still looks pretty fun.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis:

“Evil doesn’t span eternity without a little help. In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ ‘X-Men’ franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”

Renfield hits theaters on April 14, but if you really want to see it early — and we mean “Pay a lot of money to go to a pretty cool film festival” early — it’ll have its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans on March 30. This is your chance to see Nic Cage in person, y’all, but it’s also a four-day celebration of all things horror, with immersive experiences, live podcast recordings, theatrical presentations, concerts (Jim fuckin’ Jarmusch is doing a show there) and, of course, tons of new releases for you to check out. The Big Easy is the most haunted city in America, after all, so if you’ve got the time and the dough, maybe go haunt them.
