GracieHorse rides a cosmic country wave out west with ‘What I’m Missing’

Every now and again we hop into our own personal mental nostalgia machine to travel back a decade and wonder how Fat Creeps did not become the biggest band out of Boston. But sometimes it just be like that. Here in the uneven present, the guitar-pop band’s two principal members are both doing well: Bassist Mariam Saleh is casting constant spells with her Bong Wish project, and now we find guitarist Gracie Jackson out west making cosmic country lullaby sounds as GracieHorse.

We bring all this up on this otherwise normal Tuesday (February 21) because the Los Angeles-based GracieHorse graces our digital pages with a whole lot of news — a sweet deal with Wharf Cat Records and an even sweeter Jonny Kosmo-directed music video for recent single “What I’m Missing.” And turns out she’s got a little bit of Massachusetts still in the mind.

“When I moved to California I was very homesick for a long time, and the pandemic didn’t help,” she says. “I missed my old friends and family and all the stuff we used to get into. I tried to go out and make new friends but I am really shy and at times it was such a disaster, it was hard to connect with people here- there is sort of a cultural difference between east and west coast for sure-how people talk and socialize. I started to get pretty attached to the nostalgia of my life back in Massachusetts.”

And we’re over here daydreaming about packing up and moving to LA. Sometimes it be like that, too. Watch “What I’m Missing” below, and find out about all that.
