The Celebrating David Bowie live tour is back in action for 2023, and it has one hell of a performer lineup. News surfaced this week that the annual celebration of the late icon, which launched in 2017, returns this year for 25 confirmed dates with Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy leading the show. Also joining the tour are famed Bowie guitarist Adrian Belew, as well as organizing guitarist Scrote, Royston Langdon of Spacehog, Matt McJunkins of A Perfect Circle, Devo and A Perfect Circle drummer Jeff Friedl, saxophonist Ron Dziubla, and guitarist Eric Schermerhorn.
“I’m thrilled to honor David again with this new explosive collection of truly unique and brilliant artists and musicians,” says Scrote in a statement, via Rolling Stone. “This new show represents two sides of Bowie. With Peter Murphy, we have the dark baritone shrouded in mystery and wonder. With Adrian Belew, the tuneful tenor gleefully singing Bowie favorites while delivering the otherworldly guitar playing he is revered for.”
Celebrating David Bowie will this year lean into and “interpret Bowie’s greatest hits with a special emphasis on Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust proto-punk era, his Berlin trilogy records (Low, Heroes, and Lodger) and his later Trent Reznor infused years,” according to a release.
Last year’s rendition featured Todd Rundgren as frontman. But Murphy, who was part of the resurrected Bauhaus reunion tour last year before it was aborted, brings a whole new dynamic to the show. Bauhaus famously covered Bowie’s hit “Ziggy Stardust” in 1982.
“Such a surprise to be invited to celebrate Bowie in this outing, and alongside a great lineup,” Murphy ads in a statement. “So enticing to play the part.”
Check out all the dates on this run, via the NME, which includes an April 21 show at the Lynn Auditorium in Lynn. We’ll pass along ticket info once it becomes available.
