Our weird kink is bands and artists covering songs that were only recently released; anyone can revisit and resurface a classic track from the ’80s and ’90s and give it their own twist, but what about taking a song that just dropped two years ago and giving it a fresh shine? That’s what Betty Moon has done with her hypnotic snake-dance cover of Royal Blood’s “Boilermaker,” which first crashed the last year but finally got the single spotlight treatment on Valentine’s Day (February 14).
Taking on classics both new and old is nothing new for the Los Angeles producer and songwriter, who last year unleashed a full Undercover compilation that also includes takes on familiars by Kate Bush, Rolling Stones, and Jefferson Airplane. Now, “Boilermaker” fires up as Moon stays busy in the studio working on a new album of originals.
“’Boilermaker’ is one of my favorite rock tracks of the modern era, and I was excited to lean into it with my own swagger,” Moon says. “While I prep some of this new material I wanted to put something fresh out there for the fans, and I hope you enjoy the song as much as I did making it for you all.”
