The last time Tracy Morgan was in town, he meant no disrespect, but brought the comedy rain anyway. Now as he prepares for his return, he’s bringing something a bit more special along with him.
In addition to the announcement earlier this week that Morgan would be making his return to The Wilbur for two shows, with both taking place on May 20, the Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock alum will also be recording his next special during the quick stop. It’ll mark his second trip to Boston in the last year, and the resulting special will become his first full hour since 2017’s Staying Alive, which premiered after a lengthy recovery following a near-fatal accident in 2014.
Aside from his continued work on stage, Morgan has also lent his onscreen talents to a myriad of both television and film projects in recent years, including The Last OG, The Twlight Zone, Coming 2 America, and many others.
She may not be under the guise of Principal Ava Coleman when she steps behind the mic, but you better believe that when decorated stand-up comedian and Abbott Elementary star Janelle James takes The Wilbur stage on April 23, class will be in session. Marking the very first theatre show of her already illustrious career, James brings with her not only a hard-hitting batch of material forged in clubs and festival stages, but also a perspective that shifts from absurd to thought-provoking with lightning fast speed.
It’s already common knowledge, thanks to the towering cultural influence of Barstool Sports, that Saturday is for the boys. Well, when Stoolie faves Kevin “KFC” Clancy and Fall River native John Feitelberg make their way to The Wilbur on May 13 for a digit lickin’ good time (take that however you want) with a live edition of KFC Radio, it’ll be clear that Saturday is also for Boston.
One thing that is just as good, if not better than a totally relatable viewpoint is a global perspective that still manages to find common ground within the small details. Good news for us is that Rafi Bastos has just that, and has curated it into a highly-potent comedy delivery that brings together cultures and experiences for a night of high energy stand-up that is sure to offer a little bit of something for everyone.
The summer fun continues with Brad Williams, as he makes his way back to The Wilbur stage on July 14. Since his last time on the Wilbur stage, Williams has continued an impressive touring schedule that has brought sold-out crowds to venues all over the country to join in on his already loyal audience, which he has amazed with the help of a handful of stand-up specials, including his most recent with an episode as part of Netflix’s The Degenerates.
Big Jay Oakerson may have just paid Boston a visit on the solo tip, but come the summer, he’s already planning on coming back to The Wilbur, and this time, he’s bringing the Legion Of Skanks crew with him for a live rendition of the hit podcast on August 11. Join Oakerson, Luis J. Gomez and Dave Smith as they deliver the filth in what is sure to be a lively setting in front of a Boston crowd.
While all the newly announced shows offer top-notch comedy throughout the first half of the year, Sam Morril and Hannah Berner have both added shows to their previously announced stops, with Morril adding a 7 p.m. Wilbur show on March 12 and Berner making her way outside city limits with a special Mother’s Day show, dubbed Bring Your Own Mom, on May 14 at Medford’s Chevalier Theatre.
