Fest Intentions: The Town and The City Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts

Mill City is spinning another edition of The Town and The City Festival this spring, and the lineup is looking as vibrant and stacked as a Kerouac poem. The annual two-day event will take over downtown Lowell on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, bringing more than 50 artists to performance spaces like the Worthen House Cafe, Gallery Z, the Old Court, Taffeta, and perhaps Mill No. 5’s newest addition, The Overlook.

Top billing for this year’s lineup goes to Buffalo Tom (pictured above), Dalton and the Sheriffs, the John Doe Folk Trio, Rhett Miller, and Ted Leo, with Massachusetts acts Alisa Amador, Pile, and Vapors of Morphine leading the pack of New England acts who are scheduled to perform. Lowell-based acts on the bill include Senseless Optimism, oldsoul, Bullpup, Pinto Loco, Dyer Holiday, and RoseR, among others.

“The Town and The City Festival‘s first two years were met with great enthusiasm from music fans, performers, the venues and the community,” says festival producer Chris Porter. “After the pandemic forced a hiatus for a couple of years, 2022’s event was a resounding demonstration that this festival stands alongside the other signature music events in the area, like the Lowell Folk Festival and the Lowell Summer Music Series. It’s a wonderful way to showcase performers from the area and beyond to festivalgoers and place a spotlight on what downtown Lowell has to offer.”

Weekend passes are on sale now, and single day tickets will be available later this winter.
