Band in the USA: Pantera unveil 2023 North American tour

Via Pantera on Facebook

Whether you like it or not, the Pantera express has left the station, and now the resurrected groove metal titans are taking their legacy out on the road. Led by vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex, joined by guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante in place of the late Abbott Brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, respectively, the Texas band has announced a massive tour that’s a mix of festival dates, support slots with Metallica, and headlining shows with Lamb of God in tow.

Included in their headlining dates are a pair of New England shows: September 7 at Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor; and September 8 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford. In 2024, Pantera are set to open for Metallica on August 2 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Tickets to the headlining dates go on sale January 27 at 10 a.m. local time via Live Nation.

After resurfacing late last year, this new Pantera rebirth is not without its doubters, with critics denouncing the band using its original name without the Abbott brothers involvement. Pantera originally broke up in 2003; Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed on stage during a Damageplan concert in 2004, and Vinnie Paul died of heart failure in 2018. Facing a fairly vocal opposition, Anselmo and Rex have decided to carry on the name in the late brothers’ honor, dedicating the shows to their former bandmates.
