There’s a storm rolling in, but so are Night Moves, and tonight (January 19) the Minneapolis psych-pop group visit our fair Allston Village with a grand spectacle of weathered sound at Brighton Music Hall. Night Moves are kicking off the New Year with 14 shows on the eastern half of North America, including sold-out gigs this past Tuesday in Toronto and Friday night in New York City, all to show off last summer’s cinematically harmonious EP The Redaction.
Here’s what vocalist John Pelant has to say about “Fallacy Actually,” the record’s opening track: “[It’s] a dense cosmic romp that deals with personal fears and letting go. The inevitable end of things, hatred versus acceptance, flawed thoughts, and what could have been. I wanted it to have a NOVA, UFO abduction, backroom Estonian roller rink discotheque kind of vibe. The song went through a lot of changes, styles, and moods. I think we ended up in a nice place. I love the soft flute — makes me think of Canned Heat meets Motown meets The Spinners on acid.”
Hearing that in a live setting should be enough motivation to brave the elements and head out into a frigid winter evening. If not, get into the EP in full below, and be sure to raise the headphone volume on “As Innocent Looking As Candy.”
