The Mary Wallopers have cast their Irish eyes upon North America

Via Grandstand

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year, and like every year that came before it, the party here around Boston is set to get started much earlier in the week. A new cue for when to kick things off with a dose of authenticity arrives via tour news from The Mary Wallopers, the raucous seven-piece Irish folk group from Dundalk who play Sonia in Cambridge on March 15.

The show is the dead center of five dates comprising The Mary Wallopers’ first-ever North American tour, with stops before and after in D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and Toronto. The Toronto show, March 20 at The Drake Hotel, is already sold out, and we’re sure tickets to the Sonia show will move fast as well.

And for good reason.

Described as “The Clancy Brothers meets Dead Kennedys” and drawing references, whether lazy or not, to the likes of The Dubliners and The Pogues, The Mary Wallopers released their self-titled debut album in October last year. It was included on the short list for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2022, no small feat given Ireland’s new musical renaissance, alongside the likes of Fontaines DC and Dermot Kennedy.

It should be a wild time at Sonia. Get into the goods below.
