kei’s got one hell of a game plan for 2023. “entering the new year taking shit over,” the Boston rapper boasted on Instagram to announce her New Year’s Day single “no handouts,” a jagged collab with fellow area musician BoriRock. Weaving a menacing beat with interjections of piano (a la Cardi B’s 2018 banger “Money”), “no handouts” is kei’s newest reminder that she’s earned her upswing the hard way: With murderous verses, nerves of steel, and an unflappable attitude.
“Bitch, I’m the shit / If you didn’t get the memo,” kei snarls, “the memo” likely referring to her New Artist of the Year win at the Boston Music Awards last month. Message received.
